Near Dollywood
Twenty-seven minutes from the gates, and a mountain in between
A three-bedroom cabin that sleeps ten, twelve miles from Dollywood and eight minutes above a staffed gate.
The drive, measured
Twenty-seven minutes. 12.2 miles. Via Waldens Creek Road, measured door to door in Google Maps from this cabin — not from the front gate of the community, and not from “the Sevierville area.” Every drive time on this site is measured the same way, which is why some of ours are longer than the ones you will see elsewhere.
Add time in July and October. The Parkway backs up and there is no clever way around it.
Why not just stay on the Parkway
You can. Rooms a mile from the gates are easy to find, and they are cheaper than this.
What you get for the extra twenty minutes is the rest of the day. On the Parkway the noise runs late and the parking lot is the view. Up here the last eight minutes are a mountain road inside a gated community, and when you get back at nine at night it is quiet.
The trade is real in both directions. If your whole trip is the Parkway, stay on the Parkway. If your trip is a week with ten people in it, the twenty minutes buys you somewhere to come back to.
What the route is like
Eight minutes down the mountain from the cabin to the gate — a staffed gate with people in it, twenty-four hours a day, not a keypad. Then Waldens Creek Road onto Wears Valley Road, and into Pigeon Forge from the west, which is the side of town most people arriving from Knoxville never see.
It is a normal paved road the whole way, and nothing about it needs four-wheel drive in ordinary weather. Winter is answered honestly on the FAQ, and the drive up is described in more detail on the location page.
Before you build a day around it
Dollywood runs a day-by-day calendar and closes some winter weekdays, so check your date first. Current 2026 admission, along with nine other attractions ordered by drive time from this door, is on the things to do guide.
